My client wanted her studio apartment to have a multi-purpose functionality as both a living room and a bedroom with a glamorous look and feel. I chose to use the color scheme of amethyst, white and silver. The amethyst walls and ceiling and white fabrics and carpet and light blonde furniture gives the room a warm feel. The look is completed with touches of silver accessories.
Rather than using a traditional murphy bed or a sleep sofa, the designer chose to have a custom sized one-arm 44” wide chaise lounge as a bed. Added to the lounge are amethyst silk pillows bordered and banded in white marabou feathers and a white cashmere and ribbon throw. A small silver table is placed next to the lounge which opens for added storage. A blonde wood table with a silver insert is placed next to the white chenille club chair and ottoman.
The plush white loop and pile carpet with a random star design in the white pile gives the “glam” look of the studio apartment. A decorative white-tufted screen is placed in the corner to provide hidden storage and serves as a practical use of empty space between the two large windows. White stationary curtain panels and white lightly padded cornices placed just below the ceiling provide a sense of height to the room. Two-inch white motorized wood blinds are added to provide privacy.
The ceiling light fixture, originally in antique brass and facing upward, was painted silver and turned to become a down light. A silver wall light for reading was placed next to the bed.
